Baboon (from the French babouin) is the generic term for cercopithyid anthropoids of the genus Papio and the like, characterized by C and callosities in the buttocks. It is a semi-quadruped animal of the order of primates that measures up to 120 centimeters in length. It lives in Africa and its natural habitat is in the open fields (savannah, grassland or rocky terrain).
Unlike monkeys, baboons spend most of their time on the ground. Their tails are not pre-sessile. Baboons are great fighters and show little fear of other animals, including humans. All have strong and complex hierarchies within family groups.
Usually the baboons live in large bands commanded by dominant males. Unlike most other species, there are almost no disputes over control of the flock or the right to mate with females, and it is the sole privilege of dominant males to feed first when food is found.
Baboons are omnivores (omnivores), that is, they eat many different types of food. Their diet, however, varies according to the season of the year, the territory being inhabited, the age and sex of the individual. Females and newborn puppies, for example, feed on grass, while more developed puppies eat bark, insects and lizards. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babu%C3...
