The African Gray Hedgehog, (Hystrix cristata), is a species of rodent in the Hystricidae family. It can be found in North Africa and Italy and Sicily.
The African crested hedgehog is a sturdy, short-legged animal that moves slowly. It is a mammal and vertebrate, it measures of 60 to 80 cm and arrives in spite of 18 to 20 kilos of weight. It has the body's coat of thorns that measure 10 cm and are present throughout its body, its color ranges from grayish-brown to dark brown or blackened. The spines are usually white with black tips and do not have barbs like those of the North American porcupine, whose thorns have barbs at their edges. He uses his thorns to defend himself against predators such as lions and leopards. When they feel threatened the pigs thorns may growl or smack their hind legs as an alert. It also shivers the thorns and shakes them. Their thorns break easily and can strike the skin of the enemy, severely injuring the enemy or even killing him.
