The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is an animal of the felidae family (Felidae), although of atypical behavior, if compared with others of the same family. It is the only living species of the genus Acinonyx. Having a savannah habitat, it lives in Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and Southwest Asia. It is also known by the names of cheetah, cheetah-African, tiger-wolf, leopard-hunter or African-jaguar. Physically, the cheetah or cheetah is significantly similar to the leopard. The cheetah paw pads have grooves to move better at high speed, and their long tail serves to give you stability in the curves at high speed. Each calico can be identified by the unique pattern of rings in its tail, has a small aerodynamic head and an incredibly flexible column, are skills that help a lot in the time of the persecution.
It is a predatory animal, preferring a simple strategy: hunting its prey through high-speed pursuits rather than tactics such as ambuscade or group hunting, but sometimes it can hunt in pairs. It can reach speeds of 115 km / h, for short periods of time (up to 500 meters of running), being the fastest of all terrestrial animals.
Subspecies
(Acinonyx jubatus venaticus), which is also present in North Africa (Algeria, Djibouti, Egypt, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Tunisia and Western Sahara) and Asia (Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and a small part of the Commonwealth of Independent States).
(Acinonyx jubatus hecki), present in West Africa (Ghana, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal) (Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Benin and Burkina Faso).
Tanzania cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus raineyii), found in East Africa (Kenya, Somalia, Tanzania and Uganda).
(Acinonyx jubatus jubatus), located in Southern Africa (Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia).
Sudanese cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus soemmeringii) can be found in Central Africa, (Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Niger and Sudan).
