The sucuris, also known as anacondas, arigidae, boiaçus, boiçus, boiguçus, boioçóias, boiuçoias, boiçus, boiunas, sucurijus, sucurijubas, sucurujus, sucurujubas or viborões, are South American snakes of the family Boidae and that belong to the genus Eunectes .
Etymology:
"Sucuri", "sucuriú", "sucuriju" and "sucuruju" come from the tupi suku'ri. "Sucurijuba" and "sucurujuba" come from the Tupi term for "yellow sucuri". "Boiaçu", "boiguaçu", "boiuçu", "boioçu" and "boiçu" come from the contraction of the terms Tupis mboia, "cobra" and gûasu, "great." "Boiuna" comes from the Tupi term for "black snake": mboîuna. "Arigboia" has Tupi origin. "Anaconda" comes from the Tamil anai-kondra ("elephant slayer") or Sinhala හෙනකඳයා (henakan̆dayā, "lightning trunk"). "Viborão" is the augmentative of viper.
"Eunectes" comes from the Greek εὐνήκτης, meaning "good swimmer",
