The cheetah is a carnivorous animal. It feeds essentially on mammals under 40 kg, including gazelles and impalas, gnu puppies, hares, birds and when you feel like it, you can even eat insects. The prey is followed, silently and slowly, for a distance varying, on average, from ten to thirty meters, until it is attacked by surprise. The chase that follows usually lasts less than a minute or a minute, lasting at most a minute and a half, and if the cheetah fails a quick catch, it gives up, in order not to waste energy unnecessarily, because your body overheats, however, more than half of the attacks are victorious, 70% on average, falling behind only the African wild dog, which achieves 80% success in its hunts. With this, after the hunt, the cheetah becomes exhausted, which facilitates the loss of prey captured for animals such as the hyena and the lion, for example. After the cheetah takes the prey, lions and hyenas smell the fresh meat and come to dispute it with the cheetah. He often goes out of the way, discreetly, avoiding fights as he does not have muscle mass comparable to these other animals.
The lion feeds on any prey it can catch, but the diet consists mainly of animals between 50 and 300 kilograms. Asian lion prey are generally smaller than African prey. Among the most significant African species are Impala (Aepyceros melampus), Gnu (Connochaetes taurinus), other antelopes (Gazella spp .; Damaliscus spp., Eudorcas spp .; Oryx spp.), Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis), buffalo ), zebra (Equus burchellii) and facóquero (Phacochoerus africanus). Chital (Axis axis) consists of the main prey of Asian lions, which can also feed on other species of deer, such as sambar (Russian unicolor). Other prey species include wild boar (Sus scrofa), four-horned antelope (Tetracerus quadricornis), nilgo (Boselaphus tragocamelus), chinkara (Gazella bennetti), Lepus nigricollis, porcupine (Hystrix indica) (Semnopithecus entellus) and the peacock (Pavo cristatus).
