The Python-African (Python sebae) is an African species of python snakes. African pythons live in sub-Saharan Africa and can usually reach up to 5m in length but cases of snakes that have reached 8m have been reported, making them one of the largest snakes on the planet.
African pythons are robust and long animals. These snakes feed on birds, antelopes, wild dog puppies, leopard pup, son of wildebeest and many other mammals. The African python lived only on the African continent but many snakes were brought to the United States to be raised as pets, this practice was common mainly in Florida but in the year 1973 a major hurricane devastated Florida, with that hurricane many snakes we were taken by the hurricanes away. Many snakes managed to survive the hurricane and over time spread throughout Florida and much of the southeastern United States, and many people who raised African pythons had no more space to keep her in captivity (as these snakes can reach size monstrous) decided to release it in nature soon these snakes began to reproduce and to spread.
Today, there are about 30,000 African pythons in the United States, African pythons have thrived right in Florida because this state is tropical, with a lot of rainfall and a weak winter that is not too cold, everything a snake needs to survive moreover in Florida there are many animals that serve as food for snakes.
The large population of African pythons threatens to destroy the local ecosystem because they eat: raccoons, squirrels, birds, reptiles, the only natural predator is the American Alligator (American Alligator) that when they see them it attacks and devours her flesh but already it was seen that African pythons had attempted to attack an American alligator and even swallowed it but the snake died because the alligator was too big for it to swallow.
The sub population of these snakes may jeopardize much of the Florida ecosystem even so the blame for this is not theirs but the humans who wanted to raise them as pets instead of leaving them in Africa where the real environment is and the fact that we have taken them to the United States has caused us to pay the consequences for it, and what most threatens the US ecosystem is not the snakes but the humans who destroy the forests there and also hunt the animals of it, one of the examples of this and the alligator hunt that is very practiced in Florida, as the aligators are the only predators of the pythons if we hunt it soon there will be one more predator of them, thus the pythons would have no more predators and soon the population of these animals would increase so much that it would somehow cause total destruction of the Florida ecosystem.
