Crocodile:
Crocodiles or Crocodylidae are a family of reptiles with fourteen species. The term "crocodile" is also sometimes used in a broader sense to refer to the order Crocodylia (crocodilians). The true crocodiles (family Crocodylidae), the gaviais (family Gavialidae) and the caymans, alligators and alligators (family Alligatoridae).
Crocodiles live in the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australia. Most crocodiles live on the banks of rivers, while those in Australia and Pacific islands also frequent the sea. Crocodiles do not have natural predators because they are a top animal in the food chain.
The largest reptile today on the face of the earth is the saltwater crocodile found in northern Australia and the islands of Southeast Asia.
Alligator:
Jacaré is a common denomination for the crocodilian species of the Alligatoridae family, being very similar to the crocodiles, of which they are distinguished by the head shorter and broad and the presence of interdigital membranes in the thumbs of the hind legs. The alligators, which are also called "alligators" or "caymans," differ from crocodiles still in relation to the dentition, the fourth canine tooth of the lower jaw fits into a hole in the upper jaw, while in crocodiles it protrudes outwards when his mouth shut. The size of an alligator can vary from 1.2 meters (dwarf alligator) to 5.5 meters (alligator), which can weigh six to six hundred kilos.
