Rhinoceroses are large perissodactyls (odd-toed ungulates) of the Rhinocerontidae family, which occur in Africa and Asia. Currently, there are five species distributed in four genera. Two occur in Africa, the white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) and the black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis); and three occur in Asia, the Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis), the java rhinoceros (Rhinoceros sondaicus) and the rhinoceros-Indian (Rhinoceros unicornis).
They usually live in isolated savannas or forests where they can find water daily. In Africa, they are carefully protected (though there is still poaching) because they are part of the group of five large mammals that constitute one of the main tourist attractions of the continent.
