Horse (scientific name: Equus ferus caballus) is a herbivorous mammal of the order of ungulates, one of the three modern subspecies of the species Equus ferus. The denomination for the females is mare, for the uncastrated males is stallion, for the castrated males is capon, and for the puppies is colt. This great ungulate is a member of the same family of the donkeys and the zebras, the equines. All seven members of the equine family are of the same genus, Equus, and can relate to and produce non-fertile hybrids such as mules. They belong to the order of the perissodactyls, being therefore relatives of the rhinoceroses and the tapirs, or tapirs.
These animals rely on speed to escape from predators. They are social animals, living in groups led by matriarchs.
