Snakes, also called snakes, snakes, moths, mboias and malacatifas, are reptilian poikilotherms (or pecilotherms) without legs, belonging to the suborder Serpentes, or Ophidia. They are quite close to the lizards, with which they share the Squamata order.
There are also several species of lizards without legs (like, for example, liqueur or glass snake) that resemble snakes without being related to snakes, however.
The attraction for snakes is called ophidiophilia. Repulsion is called ophidiophobia. The study of reptiles and amphibians is called herpetology (from the Greek word herpéton, meaning "what crawls" - especially snakes).
